Course Background:

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training is a pre-hospital emergency care course (PHECC). It is recognised by PHECC as a Practitioner at Level 4. It provides a wide range of knowledge on medical subjects.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course participants will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to:

  • Deal with medical emergencies such as trauma, spinal, pediatric and respiratory emergencies
  • Be aware of pre-hospital emergency care legislation
  • Have a good understanding of the physiology and anatomy of the body

 

This Course is Designed For:

Any individual that is interested in entering the ambulance services. Also for those that are practicing pre-hospital emergency care, like those in fire service, mountain rescue, coast guard, etc.


 

Training Methodology:

This course is classroom based; it is highly interactive with role-playing and practical exercises to reinforce understanding and learning. It also includes a 40hr placement.


 

Duration & Participants:

A maximum of 24 people. 120 hours of lectures and practical training. At least 40 hours of relevant clinical placement.


 

Certification:

Upon successful completion of this course participants will receive a certificate for a Practitioner at Level 4, recognised by PHECC.


 

 

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Review:

 

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is a fully certified, 160 hour course. It covers in detail anatomy and physiology; patient assessments; respiratory emergencies; medical emergencies; obstetric emergencies; trauma including spinal emergencies; paediatric emergencies; ambulance operations; communications; pharmacology; intramuscular injections; pre-hospital emergency care legislation and ethical considerations and much more.

 

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is directed at people looking to enter the ambulance services, however the skills learned would be of great help for anyone practicing pre-hospital emergency care, for example, those in a retained or full time fire service, mountain rescue role, coast guard rescue or anyone who would like to have a recognised national medical practitioners qualification prior to entering an emergency services.

 

Instruction is given by the most experienced paramedic and advanced paramedic tutors, all of whom are fully operational on frontline ambulances in Ireland. This is a great course for anyone considering paramedic training in the future. There are no prerequisites for access onto this course.
