Course Background:

This course is designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to safely plan and install a safe system of signs, lighting and guarding at road works.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course participants will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to:

  • To evaluate and plan signs, lighting and guarding at road works.
  • Have the skills to install signs, lighting and guarding.
  • Be able to use equipment when working at road works.


This Course is Designed For:

Any individual that is planning, controlling or managing the safe free flow of traffic through road works.

Training Methodology:

This course is classroom based; it is highly interactive with role-playing and practical exercises to reinforce understanding and learning.

Duration & Participants:

A minimum of 4 people and a maximum of 8 people on a 3 day course

Certification:

Upon successful completion of this course participants will receive a FÁS CSCS Card and a FETAC Level 5 certificate which is valid for 5 years.

Location of Underground Services Review:

Signs, Lighting and Guarding is outlined by law and must be at least 3 days in duration. Signs, Lighting and Guarding cover both theory and practical elements to ensure all participants are aware of the dangers when carrying out activities related to work carried out at road works. Each participant must take part in the practical element of the Signs, Lighting and Guarding. This involves demonstrating how to correctly plan, install and manage signs, lighting and guarding at road works. Every individual in a working environment involving work at road works must attend a course on Signs, Lighting and Guardingin order to carry out their work in a competent manner.

Signs, Lighting and Guarding must be run by a registered FETAC/QQI instructor. Signs, Lighting and Guarding will show your staff how to correctly and safely work around road works, therefore potentially avoids injuries. Staff who attends a signs, lighting and guarding course then has the responsibility to ensure their own safety when carrying out activities relating to work at road works.
